President's Letter
I attended the Quilt Retreat this past weekend. Thank you Patsy Harnett for doing an outstanding job managing this retreat. It is so worth the effort of packing up all of your supplies.
We had a lovely short walk to each of our delicious meals each day. The rest of the time was uninterrupted sewing. The best part is all of the advice you get from the participants. Sara O’Sullivan suggested I move my finished blocks around to improve the color flow. She also suggested taking pictures of both layouts so I could compare each of them. I loved Sara’s ideas. Anyone who has not experienced this retreat should give it a try.
Reading a Presidents message by Carol Blevins in January 2002, I found a quote from the book “The Fragile Thread”. The quote is: “We’re all connected. There is a time to quilt alone and there is a time to quilt together. The quilt I make from my solitude reaches out to touch the lives of others with its beauty and artistry but the quilt we make together captures everyone’s heart and binds us in community and love”. Please let me add that sewing together for a weekend surrounded by the beauty of nature is also a very bonding experience.
See you at our May Yard Sale. Don’t forget your cash or checks!!!

April Minutes
President Joanne Hammen called the meeting to order on April 25, 2019, at 7p.m. There were three guests and one new member present. The program was presented by four quilters from Running with Scissors. They demonstrated Deb Tucker’s techniques to design the Hunter Star and the Lemoyne Star. More information is available on www.runningwithscissorsquilters.com, Facebook and Instagram. York Quilters’ Guild business cards will be given to members. In an effort to increase membership, please try to give a card to anyone expressing an interest in quilting.
The raffle quilt was shown. Volunteers are needed to sell tickets at the Quilt Odyssey in Hershey, July 24 to 28. Please sign up for a specific two hour time period at the back table. On Saturday, May 18, Mary Ellen Wical will teach a class, Jelly Roll Rugs, at the church from 9:00 to 2:00. Contact Judy Stoltz if interested. The May 16th meeting is a quilter’s yard sale. Nonmembers are welcome. There were no projects for Show and Tell. Darlene Schardt, 2020 Quilt Show Chair, announced the next planning meeting for the show is May 22, at 6:00p.m., at Colonial Manor. All members are welcome to attend.
Respectfully submitted, Dawn Gerber Recording Secretary

The May 17th meeting is our yard sale starting at 6:15 PM. We are welcoming non-members to come and shop. If you would like to have a table the cost is $10.00. You can share a table with a friend. The church needs to know how many tables by May 10th, so please let me know ASAP. If you just have some items you would like to consign, we will sell them for a 15% charge. If you would like to donate things to be sold we will gladly oblige. If you are donating items contact me and I will pick them up so they can be priced before the sale. We cannot get in the church before 6:00, so set-up needs to be quick and efficient. Judy Stoltz jstoltz@comcast.net 717 968-7218

More Yard Sale news
A few weeks ago I was contacted by former guild member Mary Gail Connelly, she is no longer quilting and she asked if I would help disperse her fabric stash. She would like it to go to guild members, she wants nothing in return, except that it be put to good use So, Barb Wilke and I have been sorting and organizing fabric, patterns and lots of odds and ends. The fabric is current and quilt shop quality. We hope to have 2 tables full of fabric and goodies at the May yard sale, everything from fat
quarter bundles to yardage. So bring your wallets I am sure we will have something for everybody, it will be priced to sell. 100% of proceeds will go directly to the Guild!!!
Tip of the Month
Elmer’s school glue works well to attach fabric to another piece of fabric. The glue will wash out.

YQG Trivia
In reading through old newsletters for trivia I came across info about a board meeting. In 2006 they were held at the Ben Franklin store in York. Who doesn’t remember that wonderful store? Sad to see stores like that close.
Raffle Quilt
Our 2020 Raffle Quilt is complete. It was pieced and appliqued by various Guild members and beautifully quilted by Cindy Hodge.
Help is needed to sell raffle tickets at the Hershey Quilt Show on July 25, 26, 27. The hours of the show are between 10 am and 6 pm. You are only being asked to sign up for a two hours, so there will be plenty of time to enjoy the show and shop!
Sign up sheets will be available at the May meeting. If you can’t attend and want to help, please email yorkquiltersguild@gmail.com and someone will contact you.
