President's Letter
Greetings all,
I’ve had wonderful opportunities recently to reflect on the quilting community. As always, I feel so blessed to have York Quilters Guild in my life. Watching our quilt show coming together out of everyone’s hard work, and attending the spring retreat in Carlisle, have certainly affirmed that the historical role of quilting as a “team sport” is alive and well.
I’ve also been listening to quilting podcasts, “American Patchwork and Quilting Radio with Pat Sloan” and “Quilt Your Heart Out” featuring Marianne Fons and Mary Fons, and watching Jenny Doan’s tutorials on YouTube for Missouri Star Quilt Co. These resources are all available for free, and are packed full of information and positivity. The quilt community spans the globe!
I may be sewing alone, but my needle, thread, and fabric bind me to my local community of quilters in the present; to the inspiration and lessons from the quilters of the past; and to the global network of quilters bringing this art/craft/lifestyle into the future.
SEE YOU AT THE SHOW!!!

What If . . .
Jane Frenke, from Berkeley Springs, WV, is a weaver, quilter, and teacher with a passion for fabric dyeing. She’ll join us at our June meeting for a trunk show and lecture called “What If…”

What if I make a mistake? What if something you start doesn’t turn out like you thought it would? What if you don’t like something after you’ve put some time in on it? Mistakes happen, and it’s okay to make them. It’s what you do with your mistakes that matters.

Make Mine with Scraps!
Gyleen’s lecture focus on traditional utility quilts. Use up, cut up or recycle what you have on hand to make stunning quilts. You will learn to harmonize exchange and friendship blocks or clear your clutter.
Extra Extra!
There will be a workshop on Saturday, September 24th. Gyleen will be releasing one or two new books and no telling what else prior to her visit; therefore, the title of the workshop will be determine at a later date.
Challenge: Book To Quilt
The challenge is to create a quilt by interpreting a title of a book you have read. The book could be any type – children, cookbook, novel, car manual, etc. Use your creativity.
The challenge will be due at the Oct 2016 meeting.
Please bring the book, a picture of the book or at least the title of the book on a piece of paper to the October meeting so we can display your inspiration with your quilt.
Your quilt should be at least 20 inches on each size.
We will award prizes to the top three quilts selected by guild members.
YQG Trivia
September 2001, Jill Coleman did a demo entitled “Spoon Quilting”. It is a technique of quilting with a small
demitasse spoon. The spoon takes the abuse that your finger would under the quilt. Jill will be showing her
quilting method at our show this month. Check it out. Very interesting!

May Board Meeting
Board Meeting Thursday May 12, 2016
Our next Board meeting will take place at 7 PM on Thursday May 12, 2016, in the Susan B. Anthony room of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of York. All are welcome to attend.
The address is 925 South George Street. Please park in the smaller parking lot behind the church, off Duke St., as it is closer to the meeting room and involves NO stairs. For instance: if you take the S. George St. exit off Rte 83, you will pass York Hospital; go to the third traffic light on George St. (Country Club to your left, Rathton Road to your right). Take a right onto Rathton Road, then the first left (Duke St.); very soon you will see the church buildings on your left; turn into the small parking lot on your left.
Walk past the play set towards the two large buildings. The one on the left is the Sanctuary. Enter through the double doors and walk straight ahead into the Susan B. Anthony Room. No stairs!
You may call my cell phone 717 495-5881 if you have questions.
