President's Message

CSpring is finally here and we can take our ques from the flowers in deciding what colors to make a new table runner or quilt. I delivered the quilts, burp pads and pillowcases to the York Hospital last week.  They were very appreciative for the donations. Thanks to all who participated. The NIC unit requested a cheery wall hanging for their waiting room, so if anyone or several of you want to make one, please let me know. As we prepare for the Quilt Show, I hope you all can attend. Remember, that is in place of our June meeting. Happy sewing !

YQG Trivia

Quilt Bingo, What fun!! January 2007 we played Bingo with fabric cards we made. The cards were made of rows of 2.5” squares of yellow,  red, purple, blue, and green with a black square in the middle. We were to use a variety of types of fabric in these colors. The evening began with a yard sale followed by the game. I remember the prizes were books. I didn’t win anything! At the end of the evening the blocks were collected and put together into a quilt and raffled  off. Barbara Colvin

Luck of the Draw Auction 2014

Our York Quilters’ Guild “CELEBRATION OF QUILTS 2014” show will be held on Friday, June 20 & 21 at the Old Main Building of the York Expo Center/Fairgrounds.

As in years past, we are holding a Luck of the Draw Auction during those two days.  We need volunteer ticket sellers and items donated for this raffle so we can sell tickets to our visitors to win these items which will be chosen on Saturday afternoon.  All proceeds will go to supporting our Guild and its many activities.

So, how can YOU help??

1.  Please Sign UP to be at the show for 1-2 hours on Friday or Saturday selling our raffle tickets to the public.  Your volunteer time can coincide with your own visit to our Quilt Show!

2.  Please DONATE items that we may use for the raffle.

Ideas include but are not limited to the following:

-Wallhangings – check out your stash of finished items you aren’t using

-Quilts or quilt projects with pattern and fabric included

-Fabric bundles

-Books on quilting

-Sewing notions

-Tote bags/Pocketbooks/Wallets homemade

-Jewelry items

-Artwork related to quilting, etc.

-Baskets to fill with items

-Re-gift something you are not intending to use!

-Donation of your time & skills certificate – I can print this up for you!

-Request donations from a fabric store where you frequently shop!!

Let’s see if we can get these things donated through the guild so we are able to raise more funds for our programming, youth program, and general expenses.  Your time and donations are much appreciated – thanks for your help!!

Please see Lisa Blyth (at the Ways & Means table!) to sign up to sell tickets.  You may bring any donations for the Show Auction tablee to our next Guild meeting in MAY.  Also, feel free to contact me with any questions at or by phone at 717.817.2488

Thursday June 19th 7-9 pm. Mark your calendars! You won’t want to miss this sneak preview event! Bring your spouse or significant other and come out to admire the show before the show! Please bring finger food to share.  Drinks will be provided.  This show represents 2 + years of guild member’s hard work producing beautiful quilt pieces for all to see.  Members have also donated many hours of planning and  preparation to put the show together.  The preview party is a time to celebrate the efforts of many as well as to admire and appreciate the beautiful results of dedication to the love of quilts and quilting. Please come celebrate!

Celebration of Quilts 2014!

Friday, June 20 & Saturday June 21

We need your help!

Next quilt show meeting will be at 6:00 pm before our regular guild meeting in the church kitchen

Any interested guild member is invited to attend.

Sign-Ups-Linda will be bringing the large tri-fold board with the sign-up sheets for helping during the show.

There are still plenty of spots available: set up on Wednesday & Thursday and show times on Friday and Saturday. If you can’t attend guild this month please give me a call (Linda Carroll at 717.235.2661). I can tell you what is still available. Some of the jobs, like set-up, are physical but many others during the show are not.

We will be grateful for any help you can give.

Decorations-Take a look through your home and see if you have any items that we could use to decorate the show. Tables, small chairs, floral arrangements, antiques, wood ironing boards, dolls, etc. look great around the quilts. Make sure you label everything.

Advertising-Be sure to pick up some post cards this month to advertise the show. Cards can be placed in fabric stores, gift shops, farmers markets, antique shops, garden centers, etc. Please ask the shop owner for permission. Tell them we have a display table at the show and would be happy to display their information. Please bring that info to guild with you or drop it off during set-up hours. Be sure you’re handing out our flyers to all you family and friends. Don’t forget they need raffle tickets, too!

Truck(s)-We desperately need one big truck or two smaller ones to transport pipe & drape. Early Tuesday, June 17, we bring it from Jacobus to the Expo. Immediately after the show we go into tear-
down mode. This process goes jaw-dropping fast. We load up the truck(s) and take the pipe & drape back to Jacobus. And another show is put to bed…….Thanks Creagers for the bed! (their wonderful garage!)

Show registration-Please mail forms to Jill Volz by May 15 or bring to our May guild meeting. Registration forms can be found on our website Jill’s address is 2685 Trinity Road, Felton, PA 17322

Preview Party-We are having a party Thursday night at 7:00 before the show for guild members and their families. Cindy Hodge (755-9330) has graciously volunteered to organize this gathering. If you can help Cindy with the reception, please give her a call. Cindy can’t attend the May meeting. Don’t be shy about calling…..

Luck of the Draw Auction-Please bring your quilt related donations to our May meeting and give to Lisa Blyth (817-2488).

Guild Boutique– Contact Ginny Lehr (764-2616) or Carol Paull (755-07030) If you wish to sell items in the boutique there is a form you need to fill out and all your items MUST be pre-
priced. If you wish to donate items to the guild you need not pre-price them or fill out the form.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify is going to be the best show ever, ever , ever………………..
