President's Letter
Dear Members
Happy New Year! Did you make any resolutions? I made several quilt resolutions. I accomplished the first: annual maintenance for my sewing machine. The others have hit a snag. Finishing my UFO from the UFO Challenge a couple of years ago, the Scrap Basket Challenge and a quilt for an expected grandchild will have to wait for my broken right shoulder to heal.
I had started cutting up my scraps for the March Challenge, but we’ll see if I can complete it. I had been slowly but steadily quilting my UFO. The baby quilt is just in idea stage, so I can spend several weeks looking through quilt magazines and books to finalize my idea. So it looks like most of the winter will be spent making a quilt ‘t do’ list and enjoying my other hobby – reading.
I’m looking forward to this month’s demos. Happy Quilting! I’ll see you at this month’s meeting.

January's Program
In addition to demos this month there will be a special viewing of 19 vintage linens quilted as part of challenge. We are lucky enough to be the first to have this traveling trunk show that will visit guilds and be displayed at shows throughout 2017. As a member of a Facebook group, Quilt Vintage, I was fortunate to be a part of this challenge. Nineteen linens were given at random to 19 quilters of the group (out of 400 who wanted to participate) to “quilt as desired” and return to the moderator who initiated this challenge and organized the trunk show, Kelly Cline. At the end of the tour all of the linens will be returned to the quilter. Please check out the Facebook group Quilting Vintage, a group devoted to finishing vintage quilt tops and quilting vintage linens in a variety of innovative ways.

YQG Trivia
January meetings make us think of “Mini Demos”, but how many Januarys have we had them?
I decided to check it out. After searching the old newsletters I found only 10 years that we did
the demos in January. 1998, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016.
This year will make 11.
