Welcome Spring ! Or so the calendar says. As flowers bloom they will give us inspiration for colorful, cheery quilts. This is a good time to go through all the magazines we saved all winter and pick out patterns for new table runners or placemats. Thimbleberries has a nice pattern book on picnic quilts that are fast and easy. I love the Quick Quilts magazine. I have found several patterns that have worked well for baby quilts. It’s fascinating to see how different a pattern looks just by changing color schemes. I haven’t been on any Shop Hops for about 2 years. Unfortunately some of the shops I visited then have closed. If anyone has been on a fun Shop Hop, please share your story at Guild meetings. It’s fun to hear what members are doing.

2014 Quilt Show (June 20 & 21): Linda Carroll reported that postcards advertising the show are available and asked members to place them in area shops. May 14th is the last day to register. The registration form for the show is on the website (Celebration of Quilts.com). Ginny Lehr is in charge of the boutique. She noted that donations of any sewing related items will be accepted. Consignment sheets are on the website for those who are interested. All items consigned must have prices on them. The Guild takes 15% of the sales. People who will be entering items on consignment must see Ginny for a vendor number. Carol Blevins noted that this is the 14th Show and there are many changes this year. Quilts should be taken to the Old Main on Tuesday. Wednesday they will be hung. Decorating with the loaned accessories will occur on Thursday. Thursday evening will be a reception from 7-9 for the show helpers and their spouses. Quilts will be allowed to be sold.
Documentation: Joan Hamme thanked everyone who volunteered to help with the quilt documentation, however it is being postponed.
Programs: Evelyn Hunt asked if anyone is interested in attending a one-day retreat in York. This would give you an idea of what is done on the 3-day retreats. If interested, see Evelyn.
Show and Tell: The following items were shown: 2 crib quilts, 3 tote bags, 4 quilts, 1 block, 1 small landscape quilt, picture of a christening gown made out of a wedding gown, picture of a pillow for a baby shower
Ways and Means: Lisa Blyth will bring notecards for sale at the next meeting. She conducted the basket raffle.
Program: Evelyn Hunt introduced Patty Prodonovich, who provided a trunk show. Patty teaches a lot of classes and has been the speaker at many guilds.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Plitt

We all know about the guild retreat that Patsy organizes, but did you know that the guild had a “Quilt Camp”?
On November 20, 1997 the guild had a day camp. Everyone was welcome. You could bring anything you wanted to work on and also bring a dish to share. It was held at Lutheran Memorial Church, our regular meeting place.

2014 York Quilters Guild Challenge
“Quilt Like Your Ancestors”
When looking at antique quilts I often wonder, “How did they do it?” How did they make such beautiful quilts lacking modern conveniences, limited access to designer fabrics, poor lighting and limited tools? Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers produced some amazing works of art with their quilting! In homage to those who came before us and some of the tools we take for granted (like a rotary cutter!) I challenge you to produce a quilt using some of the techniques, patterns, or fabric styles of your ancestors.
Here are the Rules of the Challenge:
If you have a question about the challenge please email Ann Clinton at clintonann@aol.com

We are losing some valuable time with our April guild meeting canceled. So if you have any questions or concerns about the show, please don’t hesitate to call or email me.
There are plenty of time slots open to help with during the show. We will need members to help run the Lobby, Raffle Tickets, Auction, Boutique, and White Glove.
Next Show Meeting – Thursday, May 15
We will meet in the kitchen of the church at 6:00 before our regular guild meeting.

HELP! Set Up & Tear Down
We desperately need one big truck or two smaller ones to ferry the pipe & drape to the Expo from Jacobus on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, and then back again Saturday after the show. A couple of strong manly mans wouldn’t hurt either. This is a quick and dirty job. We load up the truck, drive to the Expo, and unload the truck. Total time is 1 hour….1 ½ hour tops.
Saturday, immediately after the show, we go into Tear-Down mode. This process goes jaw dropping quick. We load up the trucks and take the pipe & drape back to Jacobus.
Reminder!! May 15, May 15, May 15!!
Please have your show registration mailed to Jill Volz by May 15 or brought to our May guild meeting. Registration forms can be found on our website www.celebrationofquilts.com
Jill’s address is 2685 Trinity Road, Felton, PA 17322
Preview Party
We have a party Thursday night at 7:00 before the show to partake a bit of light but totally yummy refreshment and enjoy all our lovely work. Cindy Hodge (755-9330) has graciously volunteered to organize this gathering. So, if you can’t help in any other capacity but can bake delicious cookies, please give her a call.
Luck of the Draw Auction
Please give your quilt related auction donations to Lisa Blyth (817-2488) ele1080@comcast.net
Guild Boutique
Contact Ginny Lehr (764-2616) syncnsew@comcast.net or Carol Paull (755-07030)
If you wish to sell items in the boutique there is a form you need to fill out and all your items MUST be pre-priced. If you wish to donate items to the guild you need not pre-price them or fill out the form.
Set-Up
We especially need workers for set up on Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19 during the day. This is a big job and many hands make light work. You don’t have to stay the whole time, just as long as you can. We particularly need members that feel comfortable on a step ladder. We really need your help on this one. Also, it would be great to have some help from guild members that aren’t card carrying members of AARP and aren’t in need of a hip replacement. Hint, hint, all you Young & Strong, Young & Beautiful and Young & Smart guild members out there.
If you have any questions, please call or email me.
Thanks, Linda Carroll 235-2661 lindalimecarroll@gmail.com
Quilt Show Preview Party News
Since there is no meeting in April and I won’t be in attendance at the May meeting, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the quilt show preview party of which I am in charge. Please plan to attend! It will be a great chance to admire and appreciate all of the wonderful quilts on display prior to admission of the general public. I would also request that you bring a plate of finger food to share. It should prove to be a fun evening and I’m looking forward to seeing you there! I will submit another reminder with more details in the May newsletter but mark your calendars now. You won’t want to miss this event! Thank you in advance for your contribution of snacks. It will be a great time of food, fellowship, and quilts! What could be better?
Happy Spring!
Cindy Hodge

We have been lucky enough to acquire a display case in the Dover Library to advertise for our Quilt Show to the community!
NEEDED: Loans of any small quilted items that could be displayed to highlight the work of our guild. Some miniature quilts would be fantastic! They would have to be items that would not be entered in this year’s show. The library case is locked so everything will be secure. If anyone has any items they wish to display please contact Kim Shoemaker at pineacresfarm.1@juno.com. Items can be returned at the show, or at the July meeting after the show.
Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
At the February meeting it was decided Youth may join the Guild to attend meetings and participate in the Guild Quilt Show and special youth workshops Youth membership will be ½ the member rate or $12.50 for the year Oct-Oct.
The first Youth workshop will be May 15th. Youth members may attend with a Guild member. The May workshop will be making a pillowcase from 5:30-6:40pm in the Guild meeting room.
UPDATE * * *
With the cancellation of the April Guild meeting, there will be no in person opportunity to register for this youth workshop. You must email N. Mott at nfmott@earthlink.net to register so we can custom cut a kit for the Youth. There is no charge but they must bring a Sewing machine and scissors.
