President's letter
Hello Fellow Quilters,
It seems that May – and our Big Quilt Show – is upon us. It is a lot of hard work and time to put on a show like this, and I understand that there is still a need for more volunteers. Please help if you can.
I hope that everyone has gotten their quilts entered, and are planning to attend. I can’t wait to see all of our talent on display. We do have a lot of talent in our group. It is just awesome.
Ms Joanne Hammen has let us know that she will be our VP, hooray…and thank you Joanne. See you all at the show, Peg

April York Quilters’ Guild Minutes
The York Quilt Guild meeting was called to order on April 19, 2018 at 7 PM by President Peg Gregory. We had two visitors present.
The membership approved a motion to change our fiscal year to begin in January and end in December. Also, membership approved combining our November and December meeting to the beginning of December because of the holiday “busy-ness.”
Darla Landis asked members registering quilts for the show to do so using forms on the back table and sending them to Cheryl Dawson. The website has been difficult to use and they are trying to correct the difficulties.
We need many more people to attend workshops offered by nationally recognized quilters at our May show. If more people do not sign up, we will be forced to cancel these workshops.
Also, we need more help with the quilt show. Call Paula Shamoan to sign up for a job.
We have a new Vice President!! Congratulations to Joanne Hammen for volunteering to fill this very important position.
Mary Moul held tonight’s drawing for our “goodies basket.” The winner was Kathy Perry.
Evelyn Hunt reported that the quilt appraiser for our upcoming show called and said no one pre-registered to have their quilts appraised.
Ginny Lehr has numbers for people who are putting consignment items in the Boutique at the Quilt Show. If you are donating only, you do not need a number.
The Business Meeting was followed by Show and Tell.
Our speaker was Jeanne Riley who presented a program “Confessions of a Serial Quilter.” She brought many lovely quilts to show us, also.
In additiion, ALS is sponsering a “Hopes and Dreams Quilt Challenge.” If you wish to donate a quilt to this worthwhile cause, it must be postmarked before July 31, 2018. All entries must be mailed to Virginia Beach, VA. Entry forms can be downloaded at www.hopesanddreams.quiltersdreambatting.com
If you have questions, call Linda Kenee at 717-764-8294
Quilt size is a minimum of 35 x 44.
Respectfully Submitted,
Linda Kenee

YQG Trivia
From November 2014 to October 2015 our president, Rita VanWyk-Due treated us to wonderful quotes and poems both in her President’s message in the newsletter and at our meetings. I looked up the poem for May 2015 thinking I would put it in here but it was too long. Thank you, Rita for all your inspiration

June program
Robert DeCarli is the AQS author of the new book, Hill & Valley Log Cabins. Bob’s first life was as a math professor at a Catholic girls’ college in Buffalo. He moved on to function as an engineer at Lockheed Martin in Valley Forge, all the while continuing to teach math at local colleges.
In 1992 his wife asked for help in making a quilt for their daughter’s wedding. She showed him how to make a four-patch and he was hooked. As a mathematician, the seemingly endless number of patterns fascinated him. He has designed blocks and quilts since 1993, receiving a ribbon at the Vermont Quilt Festival and a blue ribbon at the Pennsylvania Quilt Extravaganza for “Butterfly” (designed in EQ5).
He discovered EQ in 2005 and has since designed more than one thousand quilts and blocks, including block and quilt settings for his wife’s appliqué projects. His primary interest, besides teaching, is designing various size, interlocking log cabins and converting weaving patterns to quilts. In each area, the number of possibilities is seemingly endless, but he pursues them one at a time.
