UGLY FABRIC MAKEOVER CHALLENGE Step 1: Fabric Selection. Find a fat quarter size piece of ugly quilting fabric. You might find this fabric in your stash or you purchase it for the challenge. Step 2: Fabric Exchange. Bring this ugly fabric to the April or May guild meeting. Georgina and Dick Fries will present their collection of new and antique nine patch quilts. Dick and Jean have operated Bellwether Dry Good for 34 years with a studio and shop in their home in Maryland. They make quilts to sell, but seventy-five percent of their work is quilting for other quilters. Jean does all the piecing and Dick does the marking and a lot of the rotary cutting. Robert DeCarli – June, 2018 Program

Robert DeCarli, a former math professor, loves making seemingly complex designs easy to make. In 1992 his wife asked for help in making a quilt for their daughter’s wedding. She showed him how to make a four-patch and he was hooked. As a mathematician, the seemingly endless number of patterns fascinated him. Pennsylvania Dutch Quilts – The Love of Color (Part 2 of Trilogy)

Arlan and Christ The late 1800's and early 1900's explosion of bold colors and designs were captured by the Pennsylvania Dutch in their quilts.  Their folk art and love of color, including cheddar, will be presented in this lecture.  During this period the Pennsylvania Dutch developed their own unique style with the use of bright color combinations to create some of the most colorful quilts.  (Sunglasses are optional) This meeting is on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

2nd Annual Guild Picnic

At this meeting members will have the opportunity to enjoy good food and fellowship. The York Quilters Guild’s picnic will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church.  The door will be opened at 6:15 p.m. Guests are welcome; please bring a dish to share. Community Education

The Community Education Chairperson, Connie Holland, acts as a liaison between the Guild and the public for the promotion of the art of quilt making.  Upon request, she arranges  to show quilts and related items to community groups (nursing homes, etc) that are interested in seeing them. Donations from the community group are gladly accepted.
