From Our Invitational Artist, Mary Kerr
Quilt as Desired Exhibit – Curator Mary Kerr
Vintage tops have been “Quilted as Desired” by some of the best long arm quilters in our business. Together we have taken unremarkable vintage tops and created something magical! Enjoy this unique marriage of the old and new as the lines that divide our quilt worlds become blurred.
The vintage world collided with modern technology when I was introduced to long arm quilting and some of the amazing artists who are working in this field. This community is at the edge of technological advances – frequently pushing the boundaries of our contemporary quilt world rules.
Quilt as Desired was born when ordinary tops were handed out to nationally known long arm quilters. I provided the top, backing, and the instructions, “quilt as desired”. The invited quilters donated their time and talent. What I got back is pure magic!
We chose to work with “plain” tops – the ones that were not destined to be completed, enjoyed, or treasured. I wanted to see what could be done, how they could shine and what excitement could be created by a wide variety of talented quilters.
The quilts from this collection are innovative, exciting, and ready to be shared. There are a total of 40 quilts in this collection. See a sampling at the 2018 York Quilters Guild show!
