Sept. 20 meeting: Applique with Jo Garvin A Trunk Show and Some Words of Wisdom: UPDATED
Thursday, September 20, 2018
Applique began when covering or applying a piece of cloth to a hole in clothing with needle and thread a long time ago. Since then, applique has become an art and a way of expressing one’s self. During the program in September you’ll see vintage and modern applique quilts and Jo will talk about different applique processes.
Jo has been quilting for 18 years. In the year 2000 while working a full-time job and empty nester, she started looking for something to take interest in after retirement. She took a couple of classes at Stitch & Craft and was hooked on both piecing and applique as you will see in her first quilt. Jo joined the Lancaster Red Rose Guild in 2005 and with the help of many guild members has learned to needle turn and machine applique.
She is a member of Winters Heritage House Museum Quilt Group and Middletown PieceMakers Quilt Guild, where she recently became the QOV Group Leader and awards quilts to veterans. Jo is a member of the Masonic Village Quilt Group, and provides volunteer teaching to residents of Rheems Nursing and Rehabilitation in Elizabethtown.
